This is one of the most original basket forms to emerge in the eighteenth century and enjoyed much popularity. The design seems to have appeared around 1743 and would appear to have originated in the de Lamerie workshop. The design was soon adopted by other London makers, most notably by Phillips Garden.

Information derived from T. Schroder, British and Continental Gold and Silver in the Ashmolean (2009)
